fringe season is in full swing and i've just had some day. rehearsal with flame in the morning, theatre show, dropping off some gear to a friend, another theatre show and a duo gig in town. it's the days like these that are exactly the way i like to be living my life, being a musician gives you access to so many lovely strangers. i wanted to talk about some of the people i spoke to today, first off, sam from the evan hansen tech team. he's really cool, and we share a bass clef tattoo on the same hand in the same position! crazy!!! i appreciate that he remembers my name and goes out of his way to talk to me and say hello. second on my mind is tilly, who's stage manager for my other show. i think some professional disagreements as well as her being quite young and inexperienced has lead to some sour feelings from some of the other band members. it's a shame i think, she seems nice. i think she might be an artist or something, since she tells me she designed the tattoo on her arm. she remembered i was planning on leaving early today, i know it's just her job but we shared a small moment where she came up by me to make sure everything was okay with my early exit, and i just thought it was nice to be remembered. maybe her insistance was a return for me going out of my way to ask about her tattoo. this is not for me to know. and lastly on my mind is ed, who i shared an excellent duo set with today. he told me my playing and my tone sound great today, along with a trio of punters who kept shouting about how much they loved it. it's the little things. ed's an excellent guitarist so it really means a lot. i shared a hug with him, and flame, and later once i got back after this crazy day with caitlin too. i love that, a little touch of the arm for reassurance or to let them know you're passing by, taking leave making an excuse for a hug. most of all busy days that force one out the house show us the value of connection. today all these people are quite special to me, ross and emily and rowan and tom and tilly and ed and steve and flame. maybe in a month we'll not have spoken since this musical was over, but right now to me these people are so special.

i'm getting the 900 bus from glasgow as i write this. i just got done playing house band for a jazz jam night. good fun!
i love this bus. edinburgh's core is nice but it's mostly the same set of tenament flats for miles and then council houses further out. taking this bus home is always very peaceful for me, getting to see the giant urban core of glasgow. the buildings are huge for MILES like it's a real actual city. i always get a sense while i'm here of another life i didn't get to live, where i got to live in this metropolis and my life went in a totally different direction for some reason.
despite this i am ultimately heading home. i have my life and it's mine and while edinburgh can in some ways be a bit lame i'll never forget how it feels sitting in the sun by the water of leith with my love. that's the life edinburgh gave me and i could never trade it for anything else.
